The Model 300e measures low ranges of carbon monoxide by comparing infrared energy absorbed by a sample to that absorbed by a reference gas according to the beer-lambert low.

This is accomplished with a gas filter wheel which alternately allows a high energy light source to pass through a CO filled chamber and a chamber with no CO present. The light path then travels through the sample cell, which has a folded path of 14 meters.

높은 에너지의 광원(적외선; IR)은 절반은 CO가, 나머지 절반은 N2가 채워진 가스필터 휠(Gas Filter Wheel)을 번갈아 가면서 지나가도록 설계되었다. 이 빛은 여러 번 반사하여 총 14미터를 이동하도록 설계된 샘플 셀을 통과한다.

The energy loss through the sample cell is compared with the zero reference signal provided by the gas filter to produce a signal proportional to concentration, with little effect from interfering gases within the sample. This design produces excellent zero and span stability and a high signal to noise ratio allowing extreme sensitivity.

샘플 셀을 통과하면서 발생한 감쇠된 에너지는, 가스 필터의 제로참조(Zero Reference; N2)신호와 비교하여, 샘플가스 중에 포함된 간섭기체의 간섭을 제거하며, 농도에 비례하는 신호를 생성한다. 이러한 설계는 탁월한 제로/스팬 안정성 및 고신호(High Signal)대 오차(Noise)비율로 측정기의 탁월한 민감성을 제공한다.
